Miniature Poodles have a keen sense of humor and an air playfulness often engaging in fun loving antics and high jinks to make you laugh. Miniature poodles are a great fit for single owners as well as families. They tend to get along with children as well as other dogs. They are often estatic about extra attention and will enjoy having another person available to play with them. A miniature poodle may have a low shedding coat and be hypoallergenic for some allergy suffers but their coat still requires a lot of care. Daily brushing is required to ensure their curly or corded coat doesn't tangle and lead to mats. Poodles will always be up for going on a walk with you and will be just as ready to join you on more intensive activities like jogging, hiking, swimming, and even dog sports.

Miniature Poodle History

The miniature poodle that we adore today had origins in Germany, with ancestors in the Water dog breeds like Portuguese, Hungarian, and Spanish. These attractive curly canines were developed mainly in France, however, and it is there that the miniature bred down from the standard variety. Poodles have been long recognized for their cleverness and obedience. Miniature poodles were bred as a smaller size standard Poodle by breeding smaller sized standards with each other. The word Poodle derives from the old German word "puddeln" which means "splash". This is quite apt as their original job was a water retriever, and their love for water stay's with them till this day.
